I love celebrating milestones with my clients, and graduations are no exception! After years of hard work, residencies, and grueling exams, Jess and Caitlin finally graduated Nursing School at Santa Monica College! To ring in the accomplishment, they wanted to capture some epic graduation photos together. Challenge accepted!
We immediately got to work planning our session together. In order to capture truly epic graduation photos, we decided to include tons of props to make the shoot that much more memorable. Jess and Caitlin met in college and formed a strong friendship throughout their 4 years together. It was important to capture some photos of them together as well as individually. They brought their gowns, decorated caps, sashes, tassles, and stethoscopes. We also included LOTS of confetti, “RN” (Registered Nurse) balloons in gold and silver, and as a surprise, I brought champagne for a champagne spray! Expert tip: if you’re going to do a champagne spray, plan it for the END of the session. Want to know why? Look through the images below… they got soaked!
Santa Monica College is a really small urban campus, so I knew I needed to get creative with our locations in order to capture tons of variety. I played with the light and the props to fill space and create really beautiful images with Jess and Caitlin. We laughed and chatted as we walked across campus, photographing in front of palm trees, walkways, and fountains. My favorite part of the shoot was that Caitlin’s mom was in town for the graduation ceremony, so we included her in a few photos and they turned out really sweet.
Overall, our session was fun, filled with laughter, and captured the success, beauty, and accomplishment of both women! It was a joy to work together to make such epic graduation images together.
